How to get Learners Driving License in Karachi, Pakistan

Driving a car or a bike is a highly desired skill and it can also be cost-effective due to the rising fuel cost. Using private or public transport will be a huge discomfort in Karachi and you are best advised to use your own vehicles. Legally, you will require a driving license to drive a car or a bike on the roads of Karachi. Below are the steps that will get you the learning driving license in Karachi quite easily and in minimal cost.

  • Visit the web link https://dls.gos.pk
  • On the top right, click Online Pre-Appointment
  • From the Driving License Sindh (DLS) Services: options, click Online Pre-Appointment
  • Enter your Name: as per CNIC
  • Enter your Mobile Number (for SMS Notification):
  • Enter your CNIC:
  • Click Next
  • Then Select driving license Branch: from the dropdown list. For Karachi, you will have the following options to select from:
    • Clifton
    • Saeedabad
    • Nazimabad
    • Korangi
    • Malir
  • Click Next
  • For Select driving license Type:, you will have the following options:
    • Learners Driving License
    • Renewal of Driving License
    • Permanent Driving License
    • Permanent Driving License (Commercial)
  • Select Learners Driving License
  • Click Next
  • You will be shown Time Slot Availability. Available slots will be Green. Unavailable slots will be Red.
  • Click on any of the Green icon to select your time slot.
  • Click Next
  • In the next screen, you will be shown individual Seat Slot: for the given time duration.
  • Select any Green slot
  • Click Next
  • In the next screen, you will be asked: Please confirm Pre-Appointment details.
  • Click Confirm
  • You will receive a public message. Click OK
  • Your token number will be generated and shown.
  • Click Verify Pre-Appointment
  • In the next screen, click the Verify button
  • Your booked appointment token details will be shown.
  • You may also click Share. Then Confirm WhatsApp Number by clicking Share Now
  • Then Message/WhatsApp the text to yourself.

Different license categories are as follows:

  • Motor Cycle
  • Car
  • Car + Motor Cycle
  • MCR (Motor Cycle Rickshaw)
  • LTV (Light Transport Vehicle)
  • LTV + Motor Cycle
  • HTV (Heavy Transport Vehicle)
  • HTV + Motor Cycle

Please note that the license fee is not the only fee charged. You will also have to bear fixed fee charges including Lamination, Nadra, and Medical.

Visiting the Driving License Branch

The next step is to go to the driving license branch. When you reach the first counter, you will be issued a token number. You will have to get the token slip even if you have applied online for the appointment. The token number will also mention your CNIC number.

From there, you will go to the next counter. Here you will show your token receipt. The person at this counter will ask you for the license category and whether you want to make a learners’ driving license. Upon confirmation, he will take a picture of you and give you a payment challan. The challan will show all the fee types such as license fee, nadra fee, and medical and the total payable amount will be shown at the end.

Next, a doctor will have your eye-test and will ask you to read some letters from a distance. Once your medical is done, you will proceed to the payment counter.

On the payment counter, you will give your payment challan and give the payable amount to the person at the counter. Upon receiving the payment, the person will issue you the learners driving license.

Next Steps

  • Holder of Learner License for non-commercial can apply for Permanent License after 42 Days.
  • Holder of learner license commercial can apply for permanent license after 90 Days.
  • The Provisional Medical Test conducted will not be treated as Final Medical Test and Final Medical Test will be conducted at the time of Permanent License.
