Pakistan’s National Assembly passed an amendment concerning KP-FATA Merger

The National Assembly of Pakistan passed a constitutional amendment seeking the merger of FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Areas) with KP (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa). The amendment was passed with a 229 -1 vote in favor.

At present, according to the Constitution of Pakistan, FATA is considered as a separate entity along with other provinces. Once the bill is passed, the strength of Senate will reduce from 104 to 96 members, and the strength of National Assembly will reduce from 342 to 336 members. It is because there will be no separate seats for FATA. Also, the number of seats of KP Assembly will increase and FATA will have 21 seats in the KP Assembly.
